Ivan’s One Month Update

One month already?? What!!?

I can’t believe my baby boy is one month old already! It seems a little unfair that we waited so long for him and now time is flying by! I weighed Ivan with myself on the bathroom scale and with a little math, he came out to be 9lbs. He is getting little rolls on his thighs and wrists that are so cute they make you want to eat him! It’s insane how much he has grown from that tiny little baby that we brought home from the hospital. When I held him for the first time, all I could say was “Oh my gosh, he’s so little!”

Ivan can roll up on his sides and is alert a lot during the day. He loves to look at my picture frames and shelf in the living room. I think it’s the dark frames contrasting the light wall that he likes. Sylas always loved looking at ceiling fans with the light on. Ivan also likes to be propped in a sitting position when he’s awake so that he can look around at everything. I have been doing tummy time every day and he doesn’t like it after a while but he can hold his head up off the floor for a good amount of time. He still very much enjoys bathtime (except the lotion part afterwards) and I have been bathing the boys together which Sylas likes. He really doesn’t like for his hands to be touched or held and pulls them away if you try to look at his fingers. He is still a grinning machine but I’m still not sure if he can smile back yet. Sometimes I think so and others I don’t. He went through a couple days this last week where his face and scalp started to peel off some dry skin like he was growing. His eyes are still goopy and I have to clean them often (can’t wait till he outgrows that) and I noticed a few days ago that he has a lot of baby acne on his ears and neck under his ears. After thinking about it, I realized it’s probably my fault because I got a different scented body wash just before I noticed the acne. I think he is having a reaction to it because his acne is right where his head lays in the crook of my arm. So I switched to my original body wash and am hoping that the acne goes away. He also had a diaper rash when we used regular pampers. It went away when we switched to target brand. Now we have him in pampers premium care and they don’t seem to be bothering his skin. He leaked out of a newborn diaper twice and I am wondering if it’s time to switch sizes or just didn’t have it on straight. I got a size 1 out of our stash but it is huge compared to the newborn so I’m not sure what we will do about that!

As for who he takes after, he is a good mix of all of us. He definitely has my ears; they are identical to mine. He has his daddy’s hairline and head shape but we aren’t really sure who he looks like. He has his papas toes and we think his papas fingers, except the thumb. He has Javier’s thumb. Isn’t it crazy how they can have a mixture of so many people in one tiny baby?

He is definitely perfect and we couldn’t have asked for anything better. I still can’t believe he is one month old already. Heck, I still can’t believe he is here already some days! But I can still look at him and see a face that I feel like I’ve known forever! Crazy how that works. We love him so much I can’t even explain! I can’t wait to see what this next year brings!
